Term 2 Week 9

Ladybird Houses
Last Friday we finished our ladybird houses. Ladybirds' favourite colours are pink, yellow and light blue so we chose to paint their houses in those colours.  We each drew a ladybird picture as well.

Go Louise!
Waiting for instructions to start!
We put in sponges, bamboo and straw.

Keep going girls!

The bamboo tunnels will be the ladybirds homes and keep them safe. The pots will go into the garden  in the spring. The ladybirds will keep our gardens safe and healthy. Ladybirds eat aphids and whitefly. In the autumn and winter the ladybirds are hibernating. They are active in the spring and summer. The sponges in the pots will be soaked in either perfume or sugar water which will attract the ladybirds to their new home.  We hope you like our finished ladybird houses.

Winter’s Here

Winter’s here -
1FR girls know,
They put on their winter uniform.

Winter’s here -
Priya knows,
She puts her jersey on to keep warm.

Winter’s here -
The cat knows,
She curls up in a ball.

Winter’s here -
Bianca knows,
There’s heating on in school.

Winter’s here -
Elena knows,
The leaves have fallen on the ground.

Winter’s here -
Zoe knows,
It is cold in the morning and warm inside.

Winter’s here -
Ava knows,
It rains more often and it is freezing.

Winter’s here -
Natalie knows,
I’ve got my gloves on to keep me warm.

Winter’s here -
Demira’s Dad knows,
He puts the gas fire on at night time.

Winter’s here -
Everyone knows,
Rain falls down, snow comes through.

Winter’s here -
Ella’s Mum knows,
She said to Ella, “Wear your gloves.”

Winter’s here -
Sivakami’s Mum knows,
She cooks everything hot!

Winter’s here -
Louise’s brother knows,
He is cold every night!

Winter’s here -
Charlotte knows,
She wants to stay in bed when it’s cold.

Winter’s here -
Lara knows,
On goes my jacket, gloves and scarf.

Winter’s here -
Alison knows,
The thick jackets are out in the shops.

Winter’s here -
Annabelle knows,
It’s cold and I put my gloves on.

Winter’s here -
Victoria’s Dad knows,
He cuts the kindling and brings the wood inside for a fire.

Term 2 Week 8

Hello Everyone
We have been very busy with assessments and making fabulous enclosures for our animals. After researching information about their chosen animals, the girls each designed a floor plan of how they wanted the enclosure. They had to consider what food, shelter, water source and activities to challenge and entertain the animals would be included in the enclosure. Then the fun began! Having decided what materials they needed to make their desired enclosures, the girls got to work! Thank you to Mrs Buller, Mrs Masefield, Mrs Noma and Mrs Hay for helping us. I am very proud of the girls because most of them had a very clear understanding of how they wanted them to look and how to achieve it. Please look below at some of our photos. If you come to school you will see them proudly displayed in the Year One Whanau area.
Annabelle and Louise adding the final details!
Sivakami and Natalie happy with their final product!

Don't they look fantastic grouped together! Well done girls.
On Thursday and Friday Mrs Burson (with parent help) very kindly stepped in to supervise the making of the clay animals. These will need to dry before we can paint them and put them into our waiting enclosures. I can't wait to see these! Photos in next blog.

Mrs McRae very kindly invited the Year 1 classes for morning tea in the School House dining room on Wednesday. She discussed with the girls what happens within School House and what her job entails. The girls enjoyed a delicious morning tea and Mrs McRae read them some new picture books.

We felt very special and had a wonderful time.
