Term 1 Week 10

This week we enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch at  Government House. We had the perfect weather to stroll around the beautiful gardens and enjoy eating our lunch under the shady trees.

Here are some stories written by our girls. Keep watching this space... I will attach a slide show of some of the gorgeous photos of our time there during the week!

Week 10

It is hard to believe it is the last week of term 1! On Thursday we will enjoy House Lunches. There will be ice blocks for sale at $2 each. I will collect the ice block money on the morning to prevent anyone losing it!

Next term the girls will be wearing their winter uniform. It would be helpful if they could wear skivvies rather than shirts on PE, swimming and dance days as the buttons can get very tricky to do up! If the timetable changes I will let you know on this blog asap.

Remember Term One ends on Thursday as Friday is a public holiday.

Have a great week!

Term 1 Week 9

Wow, what a busy week we've had! The girls were fantastic at Mothering Sunday and wrote lovely stories about it on Monday.
I really enjoyed talking with you at Parent Teacher Interviews and then getting to chat to you over a glass of wine.
On Friday we shared a wonderful afternoon with our grandparents or special friends. The girls thoroughly enjoyed having a picnic lunch up on school house lawn and proudly showed our grandparents around our beautiful school. We all thought about things we love about our Grandparents and things we like to do with them. We drew pictures about this and wrote stories.
Next week we have the Year 1 and 2 Swimming Carnival on Friday.

Term 1 Week 8

This afternoon we were incredibly lucky to have Madam Butterfly aka Jacqui Knight, head of the Monarch Butterfly Trust come and visit us.
Jacqui spoke to the girls about how butterflies become butterflies and then explained to us how the Trust is tagging Monarchs to find out where they go during our winter.  We got to help Jacqui tag two butterflies and then release them into the Diocesan gardens.
Lastly, the girls discovered all the different part of a butterfly and how they use them.  Miss Fava dressed up as a butterfly while the girls all laughed!

Mothering Sunday
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Cathedral on Sunday afternoon with your button holes!

Parent Teacher Interviews
Please remember that we are having Parent Teacher Interviews next week on Wednesday and Thursday.  Please ensure you have made a booking online via the link that was in last weeks Messenger.  On Wednesday we finish school at 12pm and there will be a link in this week's Messenger so you can let us know your daughter's home time arrangements.  I look forward to speaking with you all next week.

TravelWise
Week 8 is TravelWise week.  The idea is to promote alternative means of transport to school.  Miss Fava and I will be on The Walkie Talkie walking school bus on Tuesday and Friday mornings which leaves from Remuera Racquets at 8am.

Looking forward to seeing you next Thursday evening at our Year 1 drinks,
Carol

Term 1, week 7

Today the girls brought home their Learning Journals.  These are used as a record of the girl's learning during the year and they come at the end of each term.  Currently the Learning Journals have the girls Term 1 Goals.  Our Goals have centred around being caring towards our classmates and fostering a sense of independence.  The Journals need to come back by the end of next week so we can begin to put in examples of the work we have been doing in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Inquiry Learning.

Next week on Tuesday we have our first Mufti Day.  The girls are allowed to wear their own clothes to school.  This Mufti Day is to raise money for the Habitat for Humanity project.  The girls are asked to bring a gold coin donation.

On Sunday 18th we have our Mothering Sunday service at the Cathedral in Parnell.  The Service is from 5pm - 6pm and the girls need to arrive no later than 4.45pm.  The Service is a lovely way to celebrate our Mums!

Our book room is currently in the process of being up dated and moved upstairs.  We would greatly appreciate some help with typing up and laminating labels, sorting books and boxing them.  If you think you would be available to help with this please email me :)

Parent Teacher Interviews will be in Week 8 on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd.  Please remember that on Wednesday we will finish school at 12pm.  You will be able to book your appointment online soon.

Week 7 sounds: b, j, z, oa
             word family: en

Have a great weekend!

Sunday 4 March 2012

Waiting in anticipation to go into the Art Gallery

Ella worked hard to trace around the stencils to make her piece of artwork based on Ruben Paterson's pieces
Zoe and Elena used the 'magic blue paper' to create a second copy of their stencil work so they could dye it and add glitter.

Term 1 Week 6

This term seems to be flying by the halfway mark!

Tadpoles and Patterns
This week we are beginning our Inquiry into 'How the World Works' in which we will be exploring patterns. We are investigating different types of patterns in our world including patterns in nature, man made patterns and patterns in animals.

We have ignited our Inquiry though our class tadpoles! The girls have shown a genuine fascination and interest into the cycle of frogs. Next week we will continue to explore the frog's life cycle and also introduce the Monarch butterfly. If girls would like to bring anything in from home they are most welcome to. This Inquiry will also flow through into the Strand Maths as we begin to look at mathematical patternsl

Self Portraits and the Art Gallery
We finished our fabulous self portraits this week with the help of MelanieMichelle. We would be very appreciative if some Mums would come and help back these. Please email me if you think you would be available to help this coming week. The girls have been creating self portraits with Ms Parker in Art too and these have been done using photography.

Today we visited the Art Gallery. 1FR spent the first hour creating a piece of art depicting their identity through the use of images and colour. These will be on display shortly. You may like to ask your daughter why they chose the symbols and colours they did. The second half 1FR spent looking at 3 pieces of artwork and explored the different elements that made each one unique. All in all our trip was a fantastic experience and the girls commented on how much they enjoyed themselves. I was impressed at the level of in-depth questioning by the girls and their focused enthusiasm. They were a credit to you as they behaved beautifully and showed how polite and well mannered Dio girls are!

Phonics
This week we missed a few letters so next we will be doing u, g, ai and f

Poetry
Unfortunately we didn't have time to complete our poems today so we will be doing them on Monday and the girls can bring the Poetry books home on Monday to share with you.

Have a great weekend!
