Term 1, week 5

Term 1 Giving Focus
This week in Chapel the Junior School girls learnt about our Giving Focus for Term 1.  Reverend Moss talked to us about a group called Habitat for Humanity and how they help build homes for people who otherwise wouldn't have one.  We found out that they are going to be building a house on the forecourt of the Parnell Cathedral!  Diocesan is helping support this by paying for the kitchen in the new house.  The gold coin donation that the girls bring to Chapel on a Thursday is going to go towards the kitchen.  If you live near Parnell or happen to drive past the Cathedral, you could point out the house and remind the girls how our Diocesan community is helping.

Art Gallery
Next Friday we are off to the Art Gallery to further expand our understanding of portraits and identify for our Inquiry into Who We Are.  Can the you please send the girls lunch to school in a named plastic bag and a morning and afternoon snack in their lunch box. Thank you.

Photos
The girls brought home their individual photos and their class photos this week.  If you would like to buy these, keep them at home and your account will be charged.  If you would like to return them please drop them in at the office.

Uniform
Thank you for your support with ensuring the girls are wearing the correct uniform.  The 1FR girls always look fantastic, just don't forget the ribbons!!

Term 1, week 4

This is the end of our first full week and the girls are beginning to adjust to life at school... reality's dawning!!

The girls are thoroughly enjoying their Specialist classes.  Just a reminder that all the girls must have blue Diocesan swimming caps.  They will not be allowed to swim if they don't bring this as all that hair clogs up the filters!

We have been practising recognising and writing numbers 20 in class.  We are also working on our counting Number Knowledge.  Next  week we will be focusing more heavily on Number Strategy in our guided maths groups.  You can support your daughter's learning my encouraging her to use her Maths skills in everyday situations such as  items at the supermarket, settling the table and reading the numbers on letterboxes.t

This week have set our Learning Goal for the term.  We have decided to have a whole class goal centred around independence and organisation.  We are trying to get the girls to independently unpack their bags in the morning and put their belongs in the right place without Mum or Dad's help.  Please help your daughter achieve this by arriving at school with enough time for her to do this in the morning.   Our Learner Profile Goal is to make sure we are using caring words and caring actions with everyone we work with.

 Week 4

In anticipation for our trip to the Art Gallery, we are starting to explore what a portrait is.  We would like to create our own self portraits.  We would like some parents to come in and help us draw and paint our portraits next Monday and Wednesday.  We need help from 11.15am - 12.30pm and require 3 parents from each class on each day.  Please email your class teacher if you are available to help.

Phonics - m, d, h, r.

This week you will receive a ring of alphabet letters or words in your daughter's book bag.  There is an accompanying sheet which gives you suggestions on ways to use this at home.  Please build this into their afternoon reading routine.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Regards,

Carol and Sophie

Term 1, week 3

Welcome to our Year 1 blog!

If was lovely to meet you all over the last two weeks and it was especially great to see such a wonderful turn out at the Meet the Teacher evening.

This week in phonics we are learning the sounds: p, n, c/k and e.  Today we did 'p'.  You could play I Spy with your daughter and try and find as many things that begin with p around your home.

Please note: the girls must bring their bookbags and readers to school everyday.  This is because we can not send home new readers which aren't in a bookbag.

Attached below are the links for 1FA 1FR's term 1 timetables.
