Term 3 Week 6

Howick Historical Village

Our new Inquiry unit began this week, we are going to be exploring how and why the way people play has changed over time.  This is going to be a wonderful unit that will allow your daughters to speak to you and grandparents about games and toys that you played with when you were their age.  If you have an 'old' toy that you are happy for us to look at, we would love you to bring it in to share!

For the Ignition phase in our new Inquiry we visited the Howick Historical Village.  The girls looked excellent all dressed up and they were genuinely fascinated by the Village and the way that people used to live.

We began our morning having a lesson in the olden day classroom - the teacher their was very strict and she had a cane which she kept loudly whacking over her desk!
Next we played with some old toys outside which included skittles, ring toss, a piece of rope for skipping, wooden horses, quoits and stilts.  Then we had a chance to play some parlor games and then we used some old toys and games.

We really enjoyed our free time to explore the village and look in all the old homes.  The girls were amazed that some of the early cottages/whares were made out of plants (raupo)  Overall we had a fantastic day which the girls all really enjoyed.
